Once again we awoke to another scorcher of a day, as we got up at 8.00am and wandered down to breakfast. I just made do with a couple of slices of toast and jam because, as previously mentioned, the cooked breakfasts are abysmal, but I managed to sneak out a couple of slices of the greasy bacon to feed to any of the cats we saw. 🙂
The cats did tend to skulk around by the pool or bar or anywhere where they could find a tasty titbit to eat or relax on the sunloungers or chairs. One of them was sleeping behind the adjustable back of a sunlounger and I was worried that someone would come along and move it, not realising the cat was there.

After breakfast, it was a case once again of “what shall we do today?” as we hadn’t managed to book any excursions. We decided we’d wander down to the harbour again and bring our cossies and go in the sea for a swim, as we’d spotted a small beach yesterday.
We walked the now-familiar route and made our way towards the beach. It was too easy to become dehydrated so we made sure we had a full bottle of water and to take draughts from it frequently.
Once we arrived at the beach, I went into one of the little changing huts and changed out of my shorts and t-shirt and into my tankini. It was very difficult getting the Lycra material on as I was quite sweaty and it dragged on my skin. It took quite a while before I emerged from the booth with my two-piece and my sarong on. Trevor had decided he wasn’t going in the water.
The coastline around these parts was very rugged and rocky, so I made sure I was wearing my water shoes. I gingerly entered the water which was a pleasant temperature; I had to try to avoid any rocky/stony patches, but it looked as if I would have to clamber over wet rocks to go further out for a swim, so I just stayed knee-deep in the water for a “plodge”, and spent the time watching the paragliders, paddle-boarders and swimmers.
As I wasn’t wearing any sun protection, I only lasted about half an hour before deciding to change back into my clothes again. As it was now 11.30am, we then decided it was beer time, and set off to find a suitable watering hole. We found a pleasant little place and ordered a large glass of beer each; it was so nice we had another one. The place started getting busier the closer we got to lunchtime and we decided we were a bit peckish, but only wanted something light. Trevor just ordered a prawn cocktail while I opted for jacket potato with tuna mayo. It was very tasty.
The sun blazed down relentlessly and we decided to go back to the Paphiessa and take a dip in the pool to cool off. On the way back, we noticed that the distinctive church was finally open, and we approached the door where we saw several people in black filing in.
A lady near the door said that there was going to be a funeral, but as it hadn’t started yet she said we could have a look around if we were quick. It was certainly worth going into this amazing building with its lavishly decorated interior.

Arriving back at the hotel, we’d changed our mind about going for a swim as we didn’t fancy getting wet and having to dry off again. Instead, we turned the aircon up full blast in our room and settled down for a siesta for an hour.
Waking up refreshed, we each opened one of the miniature bottles of spirits we’d bought yesterday and enjoyed them with cold Diet Coke as we sat on our small balcony and read for a while.
We spent the afternoon pottering around in the hotel and bar and, as darkness fell, we decided to go along to Mikey’s for our dinner tonight. When we arrived about six o’clock, we asked if they were serving food but the barmaid, Olive, said that the kitchen was closed on Monday evenings! We were certainly not having any luck getting food at Mikey’s! 🙁
We decided to try a Chinese restaurant we’d passed the other night called Mr Woo’s. A friendly staff member greeted us and showed us to a table. We chose the set Chinese meal for two persons, which was good value at 32 Euros. We enjoyed prawn crackers with two different dips, plus vegetable spring rolls, pork spare ribs and king prawns. Our main courses consisted of beef in black bean and ginger sauce, chicken Chow Mein and egg fried rice. We washed it all down with cold beer. We had enough to eat without being stuffed and we would certainly recommend this place to someone visiting Paphos.
Afterwards, we returned to Mikey’s and ordered another beer each. As it was Monday night the pub was not as busy as it had been over the weekend (which is normal) and we chatted with Olive, the barmaid. She asked us if we enjoyed quizzes and we said we did, and she told us that there would be a general knowledge quiz on at 3.00pm tomorrow if we wanted to come along. It sounded like a good idea! 🙂

We stayed in the pub, enjoying our drinks and the friendly atmosphere, until around 11.00pm, then we headed back to the Paphiessa and went into the bar for a night cap. I had one of their delicious mojitos, and enjoyed it so much I had another against my best intentions. 🙂
It was around 12.15am when we returned to room 028 and settled down for the night. Tomorrow would be our wedding anniversary, and we had a great evening planned. Once again, we slept very well.
